New feature update: Catering Requests

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday and stuffed themselves silly.  While you guys were eating or recovering from food-induced comas, we pushed out a new feature called Catering Requests.  The next time you're planning a holiday party or trying to impress a client at a meeting, you can post a catering request on our site.  Our awesome private chefs will then submit bids for your request and tell you what they can offer.  Finally, you'll choose the chef that best fits the needs for your event.

Some interesting reads about restaurant food

On the front page of reddit today was an askReddit piece on how much cooking actually goes on in restaurants.  I don't want to overgeneralize about all restaurants, but it's crazy to me that some restaurants take prepared frozen meals, reheat, and then call it fresh or homemade.  The chefs on mealnextdoor prepare their food fresh and more than likely shop at the local market for their ingredients.  The link to the reddit comments is below.

And here's a link to an article from Slate about the largest supplier of frozen meals, Sysco.

We're live!

Hi everyone, thanks for checking out our blog.  Our site is live, but we're in private beta mode, meaning you need an invite code to sign up.  It's pretty empty right now, but we hope to fill it up as we keep you posted on our newest developments.  Currently, we have four super talented chefs who were trained at schools like the California Culinary Academy (CCA), Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) and the Culinary School at CCSF.  They all have professional restaurant experience and most importantly, they're passionate about food.  If you want to order food from them, shoot us an email at support@mealnextdoor.com and we'll send you an invite code.
